The Small Business Library
Great books and magazines to help you build your empire.
My favorite small business book is The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. We all went into business because we were good at something, but without some preparation for actually running a business, that could just as easily be your downfall. This book has practical advice for steering clear of this trap.
This book concentrates on your strengths. You won’t find anything here about your weaknesses or how to improve them. As a matter of fact, you should eliminate or outsource your weaknesses so your strengths can bring you the success you deserve. This is a refreshing change from the usual business advice focusing on what you are not doing well. Highly recommended reading, and it also comes with an online survey to help you discover your strengths.
Whether you are in sales full-time or not, if you are a small business owner you have to know the basics of selling. This is a great book on finding out what your customer wants BEFORE you pitch instead of pitching to see if your customer wants it. It is a slight mind shift, but a very powerful one.
